Northbound Season 2 now in production

Sci-fi web series begins production in the Iron Mountain area and around Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Season 2 of “Northbound” is now in production in the Iron Mountain area and across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Northbound is a series set in an abandoned, post-cataclysm wilderness and follows a handful of survivors as they eke out a daily existence and slowly unravel the mystery of an event that killed millions in a single day. The series is part of a much bigger project: a full-length feature film called Northstar, to which Northbound is a lead-in story.

Northbound is the creation of brothers Seth and Nathan Anderson, who are Iron Mountain natives now living in Los Angeles, and their production company partner Jason Hagen. The series be shot on location in Michigan's Upper Peninsula with production centered around Iron Mountain. Additional shooting will take place on the former grounds of KI Sawyer, a closed air force base near Gwinn, Michigan. Since deciding to shoot in the area, the production team has been able to gather a solid base of community support for the project.

The production is even looking for extras. The team is seeking extras for the upcoming Northbound, Season 2 shoots in Upper Michigan! To learn more about the series, Northstar sage and about becoming an extra, visit them online at:

Beautiful Fall weekend to get outside.

Enjoy the mild fall temperatures while they last!

Even though most of the fall colors are gone and the leaves have mostly fallen off the trees, mild temperatures this weekend make it a great time to be outdoors.

Looking for some trails to walk or bike on, head on over to our Hiking and Biking page for information and maps on local trails:

Fumee Lake Natural Area: Fumee Lake Natural Area has over 1800 acres used in a wide variety of non-motorized activities.  This includes over 10 miles of trails. Some are flat wide trails for easy walking, while others are more "single track" trails that are a bit more difficult.

Iron Mountain City Park:  The Iron Mountain City Park has over 5 miles of trails, along with a large playground area, Frisbee golf and enclosed deer pen. The trails are paved, wide and single track, with some areas more difficult than others.

Riverside Trails in Niagara: Located on the northern end of the City of Niagara, you can access these walking trails from Highway 141. Take Washington Avenue east about 1/2 mile to Tyler Road, turn left at the 4-way stop. There are three trail heads along the east side of Tyler Road with parking. Take time to hike, bike, cross country ski, or snowshoe in this pristine area. Enjoy the wooded beauty of the seasons along these trails from the upper ridges overlooking the Menominee River Valley or down along the river.

Fishing: Great weather to be out on the boat and enjoying some fresh air before the ice covers our water ways. Head over to our Fishing page for information on area lakes and rivers and links to maps and the State of Michigan fishing guide.

For a weekend look at our Events and Nightlife, head over to the homepage and check out the "WHATS HAPPENING"  page for what's going on around town this weekend.
