75th Anniversary of Ski Jumping Returns to Giant Pine Mountain



The 75th Anniversary of Ski Jumping Returns to Giant Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain, Michigan


 


More than 10 Countries are expected to participate in the 2014 Bellin Health Pine Mountain Continental Cup Ski Jumping Competition in Iron Mountain, Michigan, February 7, 8 & 9.  This is the only International Ski Jumping event going on in the World this weekend with the exception of the Sochi Olympics so many of the Worlds best jumpers will be in Iron Mountain.


Celebrating the 75th year ski jumpers from around the globe will gather in Iron Mountain to try and claim king of the mountain at the 120 meter Pine Mountain Ski Jump.  Known around the world as one of the more challenging ski jumping venues, Giant Pine Mountain over time has attracted some of the World’s Best.  Countries expected to compete in the 2014 competition include Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Slovenia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Finland, Germany, Turkey and of course the United States.  New for 2014, there will be 3DAYS OF COMPETITION – FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. 


 


The schedule of events include:


 


            Thursday February 6,  6pm – 8pm “Meet The Skiers” at Pine Mountain Resort


                        This is an informal gathering to meet the skiers and coaches as well as get


                        Autographs. There is no charge for this event, although reservations are requested


                        by calling the Dickinson Area Partnership at 906-774-2002.


           


Friday February 7 – Training rounds will start at 10:30 AM


        COMPETITION 1 1:30pm


                       


            Saturday February 8– 11:00am Trial Round;  Opening Ceremony 12:15pm; COMPETITION 2 1:00pm


           


Sunday February 9– 11:00am Trial Round;  COMPETITON 3 1:00pm

Booster (admission) Buttons are available at numerous locations throughout the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area or by mail order thru the Dickinson Area Partnership by calling 1-906-774-2002. Buttons are $20 for Adults and $15 for Students 11-17 years of age; 10 and under are free.  Pre-Sales end Thursday February 6 after which time you may purchase you button at the entrance to the event.  Gate prices are $25 for Adults and $20 for Students.  Concessions available on site but carry-ins and tailgating are welcomed.


 


This is the largest tailgate party in the Midwest in the month of February!!!


 


Making a special appearance on both Saturday and Sunday will be the Midwest’s Famous “Grillologists” Mad Dog & Merrill.
